EPISODE 10 — NOVEAU THÉÂTRE DES VAMPIRES

So we’ve finally made it to the season finale.
It begins with Nandor struggling to open his coffin without the help of Guillermo, who we soon discover has packed all of his things and left behind a note that says “sorry”.
The vampires are in deep denial as they tell the camera crew that life is better without Guillermo, but everything seems to be falling apart, the house is a wreck and there are dead bodies everywhere. It’s cold because no one is keeping the fires lit, or blowing out the candles, which leave trails of wax running everywhere.
Even the vampires themselves are a mess, Nandor and Lazlo are both wearing basketball jerseys and shorts, because no one is there to pick up their clothes from the dry cleaners so they have nothing else to wear.

Nandor is acting like someone going through a painful breakup, wanting to put on a front and send pictures of himself having fun to Guillermo, but run in to a problem when they realise no one has his phone number or knows his last name. In fact they know nothing about him at all, and it really shows how much they’ve overlooked him for the last eleven years.

The doorbell rings, and after struggling to open the front door, they receive an invitation to an elite vampire theatre show. They’re excited because they’ve always wanted to go but have never been invited before.
And they all realise that they can’t possibly go dressed the way they are. So Colin Robinson agrees to take on the dangerous task of getting their clothes back, knowing that it’s an easy task, but not wanting them to ask him all the time. And in exchange he gets to move out of his room in the basement… to a different room in the basement.
I liked that Colin Robinson made sure he wouldn’t be filling Guillermo’s role, which is also seen when he refuses to answer the door, and I think he would be expected to take up that role because he’s in some ways he’s much more subdued than the other vampires.

Meanwhile, Guillermo has been living with his mum, who struggles with a broken fridge in the background as he tells us about his difficulties, being someone that both wants to be a vampire and is a natural slayer.
He tells us he’s happy to be back at home, but when his mother can’t fix the fridge he decides he has to return to the house to fetch Topher’s mini fridge.
When he arrives to the house he immediately slips in a pool of blood, and learns from the Nadja doll that the vampires have been very happy without him, and that they’ve gone out to the theatre. She points him to the invitation and when he holds it up to the light he sees the vampire council symbol, and he knows it’s a trap. He runs out of the house determined to save them.

The vampires however have made their way to the theatre in all their finery and see that the crowd is full of big hitters of vampire society. Once they’ve found their seats a vampire in a red cloak and a black mask comes out to start the show. He says that almost all of them know why they’re there, and then introduce the guests of honour; Nandor, Lazlo, Nadja and Colin Robinson. They’re flatter for a short moment, until the vampires in the row behind them throw silver rope over the four of them, binding them to the chairs.
The host removes his mask and we see Vladimir (Jemaine Clement) from the vampire council, and they recognise him quickly and know they’re in big trouble.

Guillermo, armed to the teeth, finds his way in to the building while also pulling off some impressive parkour.
He hides in the balcony and watches the show.
Vladimir again accuses Nandor and the others of killing other vampires, and then narrates the ridiculous reenactments of the killings, blaming them for the deaths of Baron Afanas, Ludwig the Vampire Council guard, the assassins sent after them, and the vampire family. All of which were actually Guillermo’s victims.

What ensues is a bloodbath.
Throughout the fight I was happy to see our foursome rooting for Guillermo, shouting out warnings, being impressed by his fighting.
It ends with him surrounded by the corpses of vampires, and he tells them his name is “Guillermo De La Cruz”.
Nandor tells him he doesn’t give a fuck what his name is, he had to pick up his own laundry!

And that’s where the season ends.
I’m sad that it’s over and will miss having a new episode to look forward to every week, but I’m so happy with how good this second season was.
I was pleased to see Guillermo take such a major role and have such a great character arc, ending somewhere completely different from where he began the show.
There were too many excellent guest stars to list and the most amazing side stories and random pieces of information about our vampires that I loved to learn.
I can’t wait to see where season 3 goes and I look forward to talking about it on here with all of you!
